Static Nails Is The Brand For The Person Who Hates Fake Nails

I don’t like fake nails. That’s probably a weird way to start out a post about fakes nails, but it’s the truth. I think they’re a hassle and not worth the money at all. So when I found the brand Static Nails, I was hesitant. Then my editor told me how in love she was with the brand, so I had to try them out. Static Nails was nice enough to send me a few pairs of reusable press on nails to try. Believe it or not, I’m obsessed.

My struggle with fake nails goes back to high school. It was a huge trend that everyone would get fake nails for homecoming. Naturally, I decided I would too.I ended up hating having long nails and tore them off before they fell off on their own. They tore my nails up so badly that I vowed never to get them ever again. Static Nails is not your average nail brand though.

According to the website, Static Nails creates trendy, pop-on nails that don’t do any damage. You can also easily clip and file the nails to fit the size you’d like. Basically, Static Nails is everything I love in fake nails and nothing that I hate. Plus the price is right. The sets are $14 to $16 each, which is a heck of a lot less than getting your nails done at a salon.

    Static Nails

The brand was nice enough to send me two different pairs to test out. The first was Spiced Peach, which is my ideal neutral shades. It’s the one that I decided to try out first. if you asked me to create my perfect shade, this would be pretty darn close. The other was a classic Oxblood shade that is perfect for this time of the year.

As someone who hate fake nails, I fell in love with Static Nails.

The colors is gorgeous, but what really sold me over was the application. First of all, I love being able to do it all myself. One of the worst parts of going to the salon, in my opinion, is trusting someone to fix and file my nails. They never get the shape right and sometimes I’m even left bleeding. So doing it at home is ideal for me.

Plus you can personalize every single step. It all starts with the actual nails. Static Nails sends over more than enough options so that you can choose the perfect size for your finger. The rest of the process is just as personalized.

    Static Nails

After you choose the perfect fit, you get to pick how long you want them on for. How insane is that! You can choose between one to two days, five to seven days, or seven to 18 days. The application is different depending on which one you choose. You’re going to put the glue on no matter which on you choose, but where you put the glue on changes.

Typically, once the fake nail is on, it’s on until it falls off. You’re in control with Static Nails. If you want to put them on for one night, you can. You can also decide to leave them on for weeks at a time. That’s what makes this brand so great.

The best part of all is that Static Nails are reusable.

Once you pop these babies off, you can glue them right back on. The glue doesn’t hurt your nail and it doesn’t damage your nails at all. I have super thin nails, so I was worried about them being all torn up. These didn’t hurt them at all. In fact, the nail glue comes right off too.

    Static Nails

When I put these on, they were way too long. After trimming them and wearing them around for a while, I was sold. The fact that I can make them the size I want and reuse them until the glue runs out makes them the ultimate buy. Whether you hate fake nails or love the feel, you will love Static Nails.

I love when brands can change my mind about a product. All it takes is a well thought out and purposeful item to change your mind forever. That’s the beauty of, well, the beauty industry. There are so many options that you can never rule one item out right away. It’s all about finding the brand that works for you. If you look hard enough, you’ll find it.

My Daily Schedule & How I Handle Work-From-Home Freelancing

I love my freelancing jobs. It gives me creative flexibility and allows me to make my own schedule. But that doesn’t mean that it’s not hard work. Especially when I was staying off, freelancing seemed like a world that I could never be a part of. It turns out that there are others that feel the same way. I don’t normally share the every aspects of my life, because, well, I’m no pro. In honor of blogmas, I figured I’d get a little more personal by sharing my daily freelancing schedule.

I’ve been using my social media pages to document my days and some of my personal struggles lately. A lot of people reached out to me asking how I deal with working from home and what my schedule looks like. The most important thing in a WFH lifestyle is a schedule. It’s not about planning every bit of your life out. But if you want to make it a full-time job, you need to put full-time work into it.

Here’s a little look into my day and an introduction into another piece of my life. I love what I do, but I’ve kept my blogging and working life separate up until not. If you’d like to see more, just let me know! And, as always, please reach out if you want any advice or just need to talk. WFH life, especially freelancing, can be a struggle sometimes, so it’s nice to connect with other people doing the same.

Wake up, think about hitting snooze, and decide not to. The first thing I do in the morning is wash my face and then I head to the kitchen for some coffee.

By this time I’m headed upstairs to my office. I turn on the computer, make sure the blog is running smoothly, and respond to comments from the day before. After that, I start getting all my scheduled social media posts scheduled for the day.

It’s time to turn on the news. I catch up on fashion and beauty news for the day and start responding to emails.

    9am to 3pm

I write for Bustle, so the shift keeps the middle of my day busy.

    3pm to 5pm

The work doesn’t stop with Bustle. After I log off, I work on my other freelance stories and blog posts to round-out the work day.

I make sure to shut down my brain and my screens for at least an hour every day. Normally, this means making dinner, but sometimes it’s going for a walk or resting.

Dinner and playing catch-up with the family. I love to keep my screens shut down while I cook. It helps me focus on how healthy my meal is and gives me time to recharge a little bit more.

    7pm to 9pm

By this time, I’m normally working on more blog content and answering comments. If not, I’m out doing thrifting, running errands, or seeing my boyfriend.

I make it a point to be in bed by this time. I’m either cuddled up with a good book or watching a show on Netflix before bed.

Sleep has always been really important to me. While some people think that you should stay up late working on your dreams, I think your time is better spent recharging. Don’t get my wrong, some nights I’m working on writing until 11:30 or spending a night out with my friends. But overall, I make sure to always get at least seven hours every single night.

I am by no meaning saying that you have to work a nine to five every single day or follow any of my tips for that matter. You do have to put in quality work time, if you want it to pay off though. At the beginning of my job search, this just meant spending quality time researching where I wanted to write, why, and reaching out to people in the industry.

This is the first type of work-from-home-ish posts I’ve done on here. Let me know if it’s something you’d like to see more of. I have a lot of other tips that I didn’t include, because I didn’t want this to be too lengthy. I’d love to share more with you though!

This Is The One Morphe Holiday Collection Product You Should Buy

Morphe and I have a love hate relationship. There are products that I am obsessed with and other that I’m not that big of a fan of. So when the brand came out with their holiday collection, I was excited to see exactly what it entailed. I had heard that the Morphe Holiday Collection would have brand new formulas and shades. The rumors were true. After trying them all, there is only one Morphe Holiday Collection product that I would recommend — the lipsticks.

I’ve said it once and I’ll say it again, the holidays are my favorite time to shop beauty. The Morphe Holiday Collection includes three eyeshadow palettes, two lip sets, and a glittery brush set. The brand was nice enough to send me over some of the collection to try out myself. They also sent over the new lashes, so let me know if you want a post specifically on them.

Hands down, the winner of the entire collection are the lipsticks. I absolutely love Morphe’s liquid lipsticks. If you’re looking for a product that doesn’t move and lasts all day, this is it. I have tried them before, but the Morphe Holiday Collection sets are especially great. Not only are they a great price, but the hues are stunning.

    Morphe Holiday Collection

I can’t speak for the Paint The Town Red Set, because mine has not yet arrived in the mail. (Yes, I bought that one myself.) I’m absolutely in love with Paint The Town Nude that they sent me though. The name could use a change though. While these are great “nudes” for me, they aren’t for everyone. Paint The Town Neutral is more how I see them.

For $12, you get three different shades of pink with brown undertones. Sweets, Lulu, and Dainty are only available in this set. These are perfect for everyday wear or a night out, which is why I love them so much. I find myself grabbing for these every single day. Honestly, I’m really considering buying another for backup.

The best part about the set is how well they blend together.

These shades were definitely created with the others in mind. While the lightest pink is too light to wear on its own — on my skin — it looks great dabbed on the center of the other two shades. It gives the look even more depth. All in all, this set is worth every single penny.

    Morphe Holiday Collection

When Morphe first came out, I was blown away by their selection. They offered good products for the price. Now, with their recent rebrand, I’m not so sold on them. The products look way more high end, but I feel like the quality just isn’t there. Morphe got so hyped up from the Jaclyn Hill palette to not follow through with the rest of their products.

I’m specifically talking about the shadows.

I absolutely loved the Jaclyn Hill Palette, so I was excited to give the Morphe Holiday Collection a try. To be completely honest, I was let down by their new eyeshadow palettes. They are not the same formula. Nor do they have the same color payoff. I have no idea what kind of crazy magic they did on the YouTuber’s palette. It did not get put into these ones.

That being said, I would pay $15 for the Day and Night Slayer Palettes. I think that for the price, they do their job. The $32 Dare To Create Palette is not worth the money. They should lower it down to the typical $23 and call it a day. That’s just my honest opinion.

    Morphe Holiday Collection

If you’re looking to pick one and only one product from the Morphe Holiday Collection, it’s the liquid lip sets. Not only are they the most affordable, but they’re worth the entire price. Heck, I would pay $32 for the three lipsticks easily, but I’m very glad that I didn’t have to.

Have you tried anything from the Morphe Holiday Collection? These are all my opinions on my own, so don’t take it as the final word. I’d love to hear what you guys think, if you have tried the products and feel differently. Overall, I think these would make great holiday presents.

Thistle Farms Is More Than Just A Great Beauty Brand

The holidays are the perfect time to try out new beauty brands. I learned that with my Fresh Holiday Sets and am continuing the trend. Whether you’re looking to buy for yourself or add some new items to your wish list, Thistle Farms is one for you. They make all natural products that are good for you and are perfect for pampering yourself. Thistle Farms is much more than a beauty brand though. It’s just as healing for the women using the products as the women making them.

Thistle Farms is run by women survivors of trafficking, prostitution, and addiction. The idea is to heal, empower, and employ the women working there. Just take that in for a second. The brand isn’t just created to make you feel good. They aim to make their employees feel good. That puts a little extra love into their products, which include lotions, candles, room sprays, and lip balms.

“Our founder, Becca Stevens, was sexually abused by a family friend for several years during her childhood and her own healing journey from trauma planted a seed of compassion in her heart for healing women. Years later as a young mother, her 4 year old son looked up at an advertisement for a strip club on a city street in Nashville and asked her why ‘the lady in the cat suit’ was smiling like that,” Emily Smith of Thistle Farms public relations team says. “Becca cites this as a transformative moment in which she knew she absolutely had to do something to help heal women physically, mentally, and emotionally from the darkness of sexual abuse, trafficking, prostitution, and addiction.”

The brand fits in perfectly with my Dressember Campaign. I’ve been loving these products recently, so I figured it was the perfect time to share.

    Thistle Farms

The message behind the brand is extremely meaningful, and the products are just as good. When I first received these products, I was so excited to talk about them. I knew that I had to take a step back and make sure the products were just as good. Spoiler alert: they are!

Actually, I like these products so much that I don’t even have the full-sized products to show you. I used them all already. This lotion is the perfect before-bed paper product. It’s made of lavender essential oils, so it’s helps me sleep through the night. The shave gel is also another winner in my book. You truly can almost feel the love in these items.

“There are 22 graduates and residents involved in the production of the home and body products start to finish. They are often joined by other members of staff and volunteers. Beyond manufacturing, they work in marketing, sales, logistics, and shipping. Alongside our home and body line, we also have a cafe, store, and artisan studios that employ additional women,”Smith says.

On top of that, every single penny from the products goes towards the social enterprise. That means the company can employ the women, provide living wages, and provide benefits. Not every brand puts this much thought into their employees and their products. It’s something we should celebrate.

    Thistle Farms

Okay, so love isn’t technically one of the ingredients of the products. They are just as great though. Thistle Farms uses essential oils to make all of their products. If you know me, you know I love myself some essential oils. But I do know that using them in products sometimes means that they aren’t as strong smelling as a store-bought items. These are high-quality items.

“The integrity of our ingredients we use is incredibly important to us as we love the symbolism of healing going both ways. Our products heal both the hands that make them and the hands that receive them by using only the highest quality essential oils and non-toxic ingredients. They are both good for you and good for her, and there is nothing more powerfully healing than that.”

The candle is my favorite item that Thistle Farm sells. This is such a special item to give or receive. The candle smells incredible and is great for winding down. But the message is the most important. Love truly does heal every body. I don’t think people concentrate on love enough.

    Thistle Farms

You can change the world with the products you buy. Most importantly, you can change a life. This holiday, I want to challenge you to think about why you’re giving the gifts you are. How will they affect the people around you? What will they gain from it? If you’re stumped with where to start, let it be at Thistle Farms.

3 Foolproof Holiday Gifts That They’ll Use All Year

When I give a gift, I give a darn gift. I take holiday shopping for the people in my life very seriously. To be completely honest, I love it even more than getting presents. The key is to find the thing that the person doesn’t even know they need. That way you have items that they will never expect, but will use all year ’round. How do I find the best foolproof holiday gifts, you ask? I do extensive extensive research. Basically, I buy for myself.

Okay, so that sounds bad, but it’s true. The best gifts are the ones that you stumble upon out of thin air that make your life better. I like to look at my life and see the things that I want — not that I need. What gadgets make your life easier? Made you feel better? That you’re lucky that you have? Those are the ones that make the best gifts.

Of course, not all of your friends and family like the same things that you do. There are three foolproof holiday gifts that are guaranteed to be winners for anyone on your list. Just start with one of the items and personalize it for the person. It’s truly that simple.

Before I jump into the foolproof holiday gifts that you’re waiting for, let me make one thing clear. You can’t just buy these exact items and go. You need to put in some work and personalize them to fit the person in your life. After all, anyone can buy a gift card, but there’s something special about nailing the perfect present.

    Foolproof Holiday Gifts

    1. Their Own Personal Bible

No, I’m not talking about the holy one. I’m talking about the one that has everything they want to know about their favorite things. To some, that might mean a book about cars. To others, that might mean a book about vegan foods. It all depends on the personal, so you’ll want to study up on their hobbies. Or, you know, just ask them. Because if you slip it in a conversation, they still won’t know what you’ve bought them.

For me, this book is Slow Beauty by Shel Pink. This isn’t just your average beauty book. It has everything from how to make your beauty routine more meaningful and goals to set yourself to recipes for quick meals and muddled water. Even when I read this entire thing front to back, I will be coming back to it constantly. That’s how you know it’s good.

This is something that isn’t seasonal. A good book stays by your side throughout the entire year. If you get it right, this will be one meaningful gift that they’ll have for a while.

    2. A Comfy Blanket

Personally, I think this is the most underrated gift of all time. That could just be because I’m a homebody, I suppose. It’s something so simple that every single person uses at some point in their life. If not to cuddle, then to sit out and look nice when people come over. I truly believe that you can tell a lot from a person by what kind of blankets are in their house.

In2Green’s Eco Friendly Chunky Cable Throw is probably my favorite blanket as of lately. It is expensive, but it’s made of all recycled yarns and made by a small group of women. I love finding little niche brands like this, but there is a practical and fun brand for anyone that you’re shopping for. You just have to put enough though into it.

    3. Felix Gray Glasses

I know what you’re thinking, but stay with me on this one. You don’t have to have an eye prescription for this gift. Heck, even someone with 20/20 eyesight will benefit from this. Felix Gray makes glasses that protect your eyes from blue light, which comes form every single screen. Whether you’re shopping for someone who works on the computer, is on their phone a lot, or just likes the look of glasses, you’re golden.

The brand was nice enough to send me over a pair to try out. I always thought that I didn’t have the right eye prescription, but it turns out I just didn’t have the right glasses. I spend a lot of time on my computer, as a writer, and my headaches are completely gone. They might get weird looks when they unwrap glasses at first, but they will thank you later.

I hope this little list helps with your holiday shopping. All of the items can be used all throughout the year and will genuinely make life better. You’re going to spend the money anyways, so you might as well make it worth it.

My Favorite Holiday Ingredient Has Some Major Skincare Benefits

I love everything about the holidays. The lights are magical and people are cheery, but my all-time favorite thing about the season is peppermint. It is my favorite holiday ingredient of all time. You could put it in cookies, hot cocoa, or even just the air, and I’ll be completely happy.

So when I heard that there are skincare benefits to my favorite holiday ingredient, it was like Christmas had come early. I talked to celebrity dermatologist and skincare expert Dr. Ava Shamban about the ingredient to get all the details. It turns out that peppermint essential oil is one of the best ingredients to treat acne, hydrate skin, and even settle your stomach.

I’m quite familiar with essential oils and have used them in my skincare routine before. Up until now, I was only using lavender, grapefruit, geranium, and frankincense in my skincare. I had gone through my fair share of peppermint oil in my day, but I mainly use it in my diffuser to wake up in the morning.

“Peppermint is a hybrid of spearmint and water mint whose use dates back to at least Egyptian times. The most active ingredients are menthol… useful as a skin cooling agent and menthone,” Dr. Ava Shamban says.

She also added that it has Alpha omega 3 fatty acid, for supple skin, vitamin a and c, and magnesium, which helps reduce oil. Of course, this isn’t about eating peppermint though. It’s specifically using the essential oils in your skincare routine.

    Favorite Holiday Ingredient

Here are Dr. Ava Shamban’s tips…

    1. Fix Dry, Irritated Skin

We’ve all been there before. You know, when winter sneaks up on you and you don’t have time to transition your skincare routine. It can leave your skin dry to the point where it itches all the time. Little did I know that peppermint can help fix that.

“A few drops go a long way, but if your dry skin is so itchy that you are scratching until you draw blood, adding a few drops to an ounce of a bland moisturizer is very helpful,” says Dr. Ava Shamban.

It’s important to note that you cannot add peppermint oil directly to your skin. It can actually burn your skin. But putting it in my moisturizer did make my skin feel hydrated and back to normal in just a few nights.

    2. Treat Acne & Oily Skin

People told me that when I got older my acne would stop, but it didn’t work that way. Until I focussed on my diet and food allergies, my skin didn’t get better. That being said, it’s still not perfect. So when I heard this tip from Dr. Ava Shamban, I knew I had to give it a go.

“It’s also good for oily skin and any acne flare ups as it is drying and antimicrobial,” the dermatologist says. “One recipe is to start with equal parts vitamin e or coconut and jojoba oil, and add 2 drops of peppermint oil.”

I started adding coconut oil and two drops of peppermint to my nighttime routine, and I saw a difference within a week. Honestly, I don’t know why I didn’t try this sooner.

    3. As A Natural Antioxidant

Before I start this section, I just want to say one more time that I don’t recommend eating essential oils. I’m not a doctor, so you should definitely consult yours before you think of doing that. These are strictly skincare tips, but this last one is less skincare and more just an added bonus.

“Peppermint is a nice antioxidant and can calm the stomach, hard to say that ingesting it will help,” Dr. Ava Shamban says.

I can personally attest to this one. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve been hungover and clinging to my peppermint bottle for dear life. Just the smell does wonders on an upset stomach, which is part of why I love winding down with the ingredient in my skincare routine every night.

If nothing else, I hope this encourages you to explore more all-natural skincare. Let me know if this type of post is something you like. I’ve been going all-natural for about a year now, and I’d love to share my tips.
