Joyn Bags Lets You Meet Your Makers Before You Buy

joyn bags

Every year, I take a little money out of my tax return and splurge. Now, this “splurge” is always something that I’ve had my eye on, but felt a little too selfish to buy. It also always serves a purpose in my life. Something that will help me grow mentally, physically, or professionally. Last year, it was my own domain. It turned out pretty well. This year, it’s my Joyn Bags purchase. A computer bag has been on my want-to-buy list for a while now, but I needed something that checked all the boxes — sustainable, purposeful, and durable. This is that bag for me, and it might just be the bag for you too.

As great as this bag looks, that’s not the most important part. The mission of Joyn Bags is to join marginalized communities with markets. They brand doesn’t just promise to do that. It actually lets you meet your makers before you buy the bag. There’s no hiding who or what goes into making every single item.

Everything you’d want to know about Joyn Bags is on the website. The brand tells you who made your bag, and how and where it’s made. It’s so transparent that it gives a photo and bio for every single person on the team. I’m talking everyone from the fabric cutters and stitchers to the color mixer and packer. They even include the cooks on the staff and the daycare supervisor that watches the workers’ children.

The whole point of Joyn Bags is to “invest with confidence, not questions.”

In fact, every single aspect of the brand is so transparent that I didn’t even have to reach out to them with any questions. I met and learned a fun fact about everyone involved in making my bag, saw the technique of how it’s made, and could see where every single city that the products come from on the website. Honestly, I have never seen a company that is this transparent before. Joyn Bags truly is reclaiming transparency.

I felt completely comfortable buying from Joyn Bags. It was one of the only online purchases that I’ve made that I didn’t have a doubt about afterwards. There’s always that level of unknown when you purchase from a website for the first time. Knowing who I was buying from made that feeling a little bit better.

Actually, I messed up my order when I bought online. I mistakenly put the wrong address in the slot. I freaked out, naturally. I emailed the brand the second that I realized, and got an email back within the hour. When I say that the customer service was great, I mean it. A real person emailed me back. She helped with all of my problems, talked to me like a friend, and actually signed her name at the bottom. Needless to say, I will be buying from Joyn Bags again.

“We’re committed to bringing you hand-to-market goods with transparent pricing and ethical practices,” the Joyn Bags website says. “We believe in products that empower the cultures they come from.”

Trust is one of the most important aspects of shopping — no matter what your habits are. You have to feel comfortable giving a brand your money. Comfortable means knowing exactly where my money is going and why. Joyn Bags tells me everything I need to know and more.

Not to mention the brand is just as transparent with the price as it is everything else. Although these are more expensive than just running to Target and getting a tote, it’s much more worth it. I got my particular bag in the sale section during a flash sale. It’s no longer available, but I paid around $120 for the bag. That’s a splurge for me, but a splurge that I felt great about.

The bag hasn’t let me down yet, either. I wanted to make sure I put my Joyn Bag to the test before I did this post, and I’m so glad that I did. I ended up loving it even more than I thought  would. It fits my computer perfectly and has just the right amount of pockets. The bag is proving to be extremely durable too. On the average day, I’m carrying my computer, charger, snacks, a book, and a water bottle. This bag was smaller than I thought it would be, but it has not let me know.

Bonus points to the Joyn Bag for making me feel professional as well. I’m a firm believer that you have to dress how you want to be perceived. This bag it professional, but still a whole lot of personality — just like me. Not to mention that I feel absolutely great about putting this on my arm and carrying it around all day.

There’s something to be said for a bag that makes you feel proud to carry it. Not for the brand name or print, but for the story behind it.

Joyn Bags

I will be buying from this brand again. Many times. Brands like this are worth splurging on. Because, well, it’s not actually a splurge at all. I rather pay a fair price that allows every single person to be paid fairly than to buy a bag from just anywhere. If you want an item, you should be willing to pay the true price. Saving money is not worth a human life.

Even if you’re not looking for a new purse or computer tote, the Joyn Bags website is worth a browse. This is the type of transparency that all brands should strive to have. If nothing else, the website will show you what fast fashion brands are missing — a face that isn’t just a models.

xx.
