A new holiday means one thing in my mind — another reason to hit the thrift store! I love showing you guys that great quality, dare I even say trendy items can be found secondhand. But this little holiday obsessed is more personal for me. I love mugs. Specifically, I love coffee. There’s a 30 percent chance that you will have to catch a falling mug out of my cabinet when you open it. So, yes, my favorite holiday items to buy at the thrift store are new mugs.
There’s just something about waking up each morning and picking my perfect mug that gives me so much joy. Do I want the small one? The one with a big handle? The clear one? The possibilities are endless!
All jokes aside, I really am a mug-a-holic. Every holiday calls for a new excuse to add one to my collection. I can remember who gave them to me and where they’re from as I’m filling up my morning coffee. What I don’t like about mugs is how expensive they can be. That’s where the thrift store comes in.
This year, I was really picky about the mugs that I got. I wanted to make sure that they embraced the holiday season, but were worth the space in my tiny cabinet. This year I narrowed it down to three winners that I’m obsessed with.
All three mugs cost me a total of $2.50.
I get a lot of my mugs for $1 to $2 each. That’s a small price to pay for a little holiday magic, if you ask me. The mugs are so cheap it doesn’t matter is they break of fade a few times after I use them. After all, things are just things.
Is there anything more Christmas-y than a bright red mug? Rhetorical question, because there’s not. Every time I fill this up with hot cocoa, I know that the holidays have officially arrived. You can’t really tell in the photo, but it’s actually curved like a little Christmas bauble too. I’m obsessed.
This shiny red mug was $1.
In my Goodwill, there’s a section of regular mugs and a section of holiday mugs. I was searching through all of the Santa-faced and ultra-corny designs when I stumbled upon a box. The box, which was pushed all the way to the back, held this shiny little mug. Not only was this adorable, but it was also in pristine condition.
Forget everything I said about practical mugs, because this is the exactly the opposite. I could not resist this mug when I saw it. I love the old-time Santa on it, but the holly leaves are what sold me. Yes, I am 24 years old and this mug makes me extremely happy. No shame.
Just like the red shiny mug…
My Santa mug was $1.
This was the last mug that I collected. I honestly don’t know how someone didn’t scoop this up sooner. I can’t be the only one who thinks that this is adorable, right? This quirky little mug is worth so much more. This is one that I hope doesn’t break this year, because I’ll definitely be keeping it in my collection. After all, you’re never to old to believe in Santa.
Recognize this mug? It’s actually originally from Target. The store actually has a deal with Goodwill to donate their excess items. So instead of paying full price or even half off at Target, I got this mug for 50 cents. Not only did I save money, but they money I paid went to a better cause. It’s an all around win!
of course, the mug is also super cute. That’s a perk too. It’s the perfect shape for my over-the-top holiday drink. I’m absolutely obsessed with peppermint hot cocoa. Every now and then, I love to add some whip cream and peppermint on top as well. Turn on a holiday movie and shut off all the light — except for the tree, of course — and you have the perfect December night!
Which mug did you like the best? I’d love to hear in the comments! Let’s talk about your favorite thrift store finds too. I hope you’re ready for a whole lot more thrifting, because I have a ton of exciting posts to share!
I’ll also be wearing a dress every day in December. It’s all to raise awareness and funds to help end human trafficking. You can follow along with my wardrobe journey on my Instagram story page as well.
