When I first started my journey to purposeful living, I had no idea that it could change my life so much. Or, for that matter, be so much fun. I genuinely love to spend time researching brands and getting inspired to make my life more meaningful. That might sound nerdy, but I really do. I use all three free resources that I can get, which includes Netflix documentaries.
Believe it or not, there are tons of different fashion documentaries on Netflix. While not of them all circle around being sustainable or eco-friendly, they will change the way that you think of fashion forever. From fast fashion worries to closet inspiration, there’s something for everyone on the wonderful world of Netflix.
If you haven’t dived into to documentaries yet, you seriously don’t know what you’ve been missing. Luckily, I’ve watched the good, bad, and boring Netflix documentaries about fashion, so you don’t have to. I highly suggest all three of these, and also believe you should watch them in the order below. I know that sounds like a lot, but just trust me here. If you’re looking to live a more purposeful life, these three films will help.
So get your popcorn and notebook ready, because these documentaries are well worth your time.
I say this with no exaggeration at all, this fashion documentary will change your life. It might be from 2015, but the message is one that is still true today. The True Cost takes a dive into the fast fashion industry and shows the truth about where the clothing is made. It will shock you and make you completely rethink where you shop and how you spend your money.
The facts in this documentary are undeniable. This isn’t a movie that will go out of its way to persuade you one way or another. It will show you the truth, odds are make you extremely pissed, and let you make your mind up for yourself. There’s a good chance that you will be done with fast fashion forever after you watch it though.
If you haven’t heard of Iris Apfel, stop reading this and go watch the Netflix documentary right now. The 96-year-old has the largest and most diverse vintage clothing collection in the entire world. All of that aside, she also has the best outlook on life and personal style that I have ever heard.
The documentary will inspire you to jazz up your look and dress the way you feel the best. Yes, the 96-year-old has better style than you. I mean that wholeheartedly.
You’re probably wondering why I’m recommending a documentary on a woman who has three entire houses filled with clothes, as someone who preaches eco-friendly living. Iris has a way of looking at fashion that I think everyone should see. She also uses her knowledge to give back, which is one of the best parts.
This documentary is about living minimally. It covers a ton of different aspects, but, of course, I was most interested in the fashion aspect. Two men have written a book about minimalist living and promote it their book. There’s also a ton of different people of all ages who weigh in.
Overall, the best part of the documentary is hearing their philosophy on life. It’s not about getting rid of everything you own, but about getting rid of the things that aren’t making you happy. It’s the perfect way to wrap up a night of fashion documentaries.
I love sharing eco-friendly and sustainable fashion facts with you guys, but these Netflix documentaries do a way better job than I can on these subjects. Have you watched any of these documentaries? Or are there any that I’ve missed? I’m addicted to learning about this topic and would love to hear what you guys think too!
