My daily work-from-home schedule post was extremely well received. I’ve had people reach out about even more info on freelancing and my schedule in general. I really love opening up the conversation with everyone, so I thought I would follow up with another major tip about my day. There’s one thing that I do every morning to structure my day and it’s possibly the easiest tip of all time.
Every morning I put on slippers to structure my day.
It’s that simple, guys. Because I work from home, I don’t start my day like everyone else. I don’t get ready in the morning. Heck, some days I don’t even change out of my pajamas until 4pm. When I slip on my slippers for the day, I know that my day has officially started.
I know what you’re thinking. Slippers are supposed to be comfortable and relaxing, but they really do structure my day. These aren’t just any slippers, though — they’re Birdies.
The brand created this slipper line to do exactly what I use them for — to structure my day. They are the perfect balance of comfy and functional. You can wear them inside or outside, which is why I love them so much. Typically, I’m inside for the majority of my day. But every now and then I have to pop out to sign for a package, grab the mail, or pick up some lunch.
“So many people work remotely these days which is great and can provide a lot of flexibility. But you still want to be motivated to handle whatever the workday throws at you – even a last minute video conference,” founders Bianca and Marisa tell me.
These slippers really do make me feel like I’m ready for anything. But even more than that, they make me feel more productive. When I put these on in the morning, I know that my day has begun and I’m in work mode. I can actually feel a different in the structure of my day when I don’t put these on in the morning.
“Birdies are perfect for working from home — an ideal indoor shoe that’s not too formal, totally comfortable, and finishes off a head-to- toe look which has a powerful ability to impact how you feel, your confidence and ultimately your productivity.”
These slippers are pricey. Each one of the designs is priced at $140. Birdies was nice enough to send me a pair to test out myself, but these really are worth every penny. The way I see it, it’s investing in my job. I don’t have to buy work clothing or pay for gas to commute, so this is like a work item. It’s a small price to pay for productivity, in my opinion.
This is only the beginning of the tips and tricks I use to structure my day, so let me know if you want any more! I don’t think I’ll be diving into this topic outside of blogmas, but I will be posting more about it on my social media.
I love sharing great brands like this with everyone. Do you have a morning ritual that helps structure your day? I’d love to hear about them in the comments section. I’m not a pro on the topic, so we can all figure this out together.
