International Women’s Day just might be my favorite holiday. An entire day to celebrate the incredible women that are around you and have come before you? Yes, please. The more girl power the better. While there are tons of different ways to celebrate the holiday that don’t cost a single thing, another option is to monetarily give back to organizations that you believe in. There are even some brands that will donate all proceeds of certain items — like Stella and Bow’s Nasty Bracelet.
Brand donations are a tricky thing. Let’s be honest, everyone wants to get rewarded for doing good. It just makes the donation that much better, but some brands choose to profit over the holidays. Any brand that says that they’ll donation “a portion of the proceeds” to the charity is keeping profits for itself. What you want to look for is the term “all (or 100%) of proceeds will be donated.” That means that the brand isn’t keep any of the money.
Stella and Bow is one that does it right. The brand created the Nasty Bracelet for last year’s International Women’s Day and are bringing it back for a second year. They give every single cent from the accessory to Planned Parenthood. The organization is not only threatened by the Trump administration, but it works tirelessly to help support women in need. You get something and give money to a great organization at the same time.
International Women’s Day is on March 8. The Nasty Bracelet is available even beyond the holiday.
The term “nasty” is one near and dear to my heart. The term was first adopted by feminists everywhere when now-President Trump called Hillary a “nasty woman” during the 2016 election. Since then, it has been plastered on shirts, bags, and even this bracelet. It’s not going anywhere any time soon. We’re still nasty and ready to fight for what we believe in. Now there’s a bracelet to remind you of it every single day.
“I wanted to create something fun that people would want to buy and wear,” says Stella & Bow founder Lauren Brokaw. “When I saw how well the bracelets did (and how nothing within the government has changed) I decided I wanted to continue making them so I could continue to donate to Planned Parenthood.”
Stella and Bow’s Nasty Bracelet is available online for $44. It’s a 14k gold chain with beads spelling “nasty” along the middle. The bracelet clasps together and looks great with everything form jeans and sneakers to cocktail dresses. It’s also a a great sartorial reminder to fight for what you believe in every second of every day.
If you have the financial means, this is the perfect way to celebrate International Women’s Day. You get a great, girl power accessory and give to those in need at the same time. It’s a win-win situation. These also make really incredible gifts for the women in your life that mean the most to you.
This is only the beginning of charitable gifts out there to celebrate women. Stella and Bow isn’t the only brand that gives back. Just make sure not tricked into thinking that your purchase is charitable. Make sure you see the words “all (or 100%) of proceeds donated,” so you know where your money is going. Because at the end of the day, where you spend your money matters. Every dollar you spend is going somewhere, and there’s a way to stretch it to support the highest number of people.
